What is a Kathisma?
(pi. kathismata) Each of the twenty sections into which the Psalter is divided. Also a short troparion, chanted or read during Matins at the end of each kathisma from the Psalter.
How to Read the Orthodox Psalter
Every Kathisma is divided into three stases; after each of the first two stases the following is said:
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Glory to Thee, O God. (Thrice) Lord, have mercy. (Thrice) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
But at the end of the whole Kathisma:
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Glory to Thee, O God. (Twice) Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Glory to Thee, O God our Hope, O Lord, glory be to Thee.
